IN 1997, the Economic Development Board set out
to get 10 world-class universities to establish bases in
Singapore by 2008.
So far, more then ten universities with strengths
in different fields, such as medicine and logistics, have set up home
here. They are:
• Medicine
- Johns Hopkins,
the United States. partners NUS in joint PhD programme in basic sciences
and clinical research.
• Engineering
- Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, the US joint effort with NUS, NTU to offer graduate
engineering and computer-science programmes.
- Technische Universiteit
of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. set up with NUS the Design Technology
Institute to offer the Master of Technological Design.
- Singapore Stanford
Partnership: Joint effort between Stanford University and NTU to offer
graduate
environmental engineering programmes
• Business
- Insead, France,
offer MBA programme

University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, the US, offer MBA
programme|
- University
of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, the US, tie-up with Singapore Management
University.
- Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, partners NTU to offer MBA programmes.
• Hotel Management
- Cornell University in the United States tie up with NANYANG Technological
University (NTU) to run postgraduate courses in hotel management.
• Logistics
- Georgia Institute
of Technology, the US. and NUS partner to offer a dual Master of Science
degree in logistics.
• Science
and Technology
- The
Technical University of Munich, Germany, tie-up with NUS to offer
a joint master's in industrial chemistry.
