There are 30 Foreign System/ International Schools for expatriate students in Singapore. These schools are registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE), but adopt the curricula, examination system and media of instruction of their home countries. 

International schools only accept children of expatriates and permanent residents proficient in their respective language. Some schools only accept students who are of their nationality. Though most schools have an open admission policy, the admission criteria vary from school to school, and admission is at the schools's discretion. Singaporean students must have spent at least 3 years in an overseas institution, or received permission directly from MOE for admission into an international scool in Singapore. The fees per year for international school range from S$4600 to S$14 000 for the lower grades and S$6000 to S$18 000 for the upper grades. The school year varies in different schools.

An international school intake ranges from 50 - 150, depending on the available facilities, and the popularity of the school among expatriates.

The school year is divided into 2 semesters, and fees are paid likewise. School times differ from school to school. Generally, school hours range from about 8am - 3pm.

Students can join the local hostels and boarding schools, as boarding facilities are not available from the international schools.

Some schools provide contacts for homestay accommodation. Under such an arrangement, the student will live with a local family for the duration of his/her time of study here in Singapore. Usually, families under these homestay schemes provide tuition, lodging, and meals for the student.
